About Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park

Located near the town of Canmore, Alberta, Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park was originally developed for the 1988 Winter Olympics as the venue for cross-country skiing and biathlon events. Today, it is managed by Alberta Parks and is renowned for its diverse outdoor recreation opportunities within the Canadian Rocky Mountains. The park encompasses over 4,000 acres of mixed forest, grassland, and alpine terrain, providing scenic views of the surrounding mountains such as the Three Sisters and Mount Rundle. The ecology includes coniferous forests dominated by lodgepole pine and spruce, along with habitats that support wildlife like deer, moose, and a variety of bird species. In winter, the park boasts more than 65 kilometers of groomed cross-country ski trails and biathlon ranges. During summer, many of these trails are converted into extensive mountain biking and hiking routes suitable for all skill levels. The park also features a world-class race venue complex, public washrooms, rental and training facilities, and picnic areas. It draws athletes, tourists, and outdoor enthusiasts due to its Olympic legacy, well-maintained infrastructure, and beautiful rugged setting. Its proximity to the town of Canmore makes it easily accessible and a popular spot for both casual recreation and competitive events. Visitors can enjoy panoramic vistas, well-marked trails, and varied terrain that accommodates beginner to advanced users. The Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park remains a key destination for those seeking active experiences against the backdrop of the Canadian Rockies.
